11 Years and Counting!

Here we go again!     It is approximately 12 weeks until the Bike MS: Valero 2010 Alamo Ride to the River, which takes place this year on October 9th and 10th.  This will my 11th year to participate in a fall Bike MS event in South Texas.  The first nine years I pedaled from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, and last year I participated in the first ever Ride to the River (which, unforunately, ended up as the Ride in the River, but we’ll discuss that later…)    People ask me all the time why I devote myself to this event year after year.   Well, there are so many great reasons I could rattle off, but let me list just a few of the most important –

  • You get to help so many people by raising money and awareness for a really important cause
  • The folks who run this event (Tony “One and Done” Ralf, Cindy “C-Rod” Rodriguez, etc.) are really great people who inspire me to do good
  • It forces me to get into the physical shape necessary to ride a bike 165 miles over two days
  • Riding as part of my company team, Velo Valero, the official cycling team of Valero Energy Corporation, allows me to show the world what our caring and sharing spirit is all about
  • And finally, hanging out with my cycling buds and budettes during the overnight in New Braunfels is always a blast

In this blog I’ll discuss my training strategies, share photos and stories from the road,  and hopefully help you prepare for this event, either as a rider, a volunteer, a donor, or a spectator.

See ya’ on the road!
